The Minamata Convention on Mercury is a global treaty to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of mercury. The First Conference of the Parties will take place from 24 to 29 September 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. This month AGC has held Validation Workshops in both Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso and Bagac, Philippines for the GEF Global Opportunities for Long-term Development (GOLD) Burkina Faso and Mongolia-Philippines project preparations. These workshops aim to provide project stakeholders an opportunity to discuss, validate, and help finalize the GEF GOLD project document for endorsement to the GEF council.
Last week representatives from AGC attended Parliament to support the Ministry of Environment in the vote on Indonesia’s ratification of the Minamata Convention. The draft ratification was approved, and has now been submitted to the President to become law. Pictured is the Minister of Environment, Dr. Ir.
